Western Digital 12TB External/Desktop USB3.0 Hard Drive for $180 today. This is an excellent quality hard drive for backing up photos, videos, and important files.

Some people have popped open the case and removed the 12TB hard drive for use in a NAS, file server, or hard drive docking station. This is called "shucking", and with a little physical effort of prying opening the case (watch this video and use these guitar picks), you can get a 3.5" Western Digital Red 12TB hard drive that would normally cost over $300. This may void the 2-year warranty, though.

It's one of the cheapest luggage scales on the market, and works well. We bought one of these before flying on an airline with strict baggage limits.

Most airlines limit checked luggage to 50 pounds (23 kg), and some international airlines (many in the pacific) have a strict 15 pound (7 kg) limit on carry-on bags. To avoid hefty penalties while traveling, this handheld scale can measure the weight of luggage to help pack within limits before arriving at the airport.

Beware, to use this handheld scale, you must possess the strength to lift the weight of the luggage. Say your luggage weighs 45 pounds, you must strap the scale to the luggage handle and lift the 45 pound bag off the ground and hold it steady for about 4 seconds to get an accurate weight measurement.

Speaking of international travel, Amazon sells a carry-on luggage with 4 wheels for $55 that conforms to most reduced carry-on size limits enforced by many international airlines. Alternatively, Samsonite and TravelPro do sell 2-wheel bags at this size, but if you want 4 wheels, the Amazon bag is one of the only options for an international-compatible carry-on.

Normally, points/miles earned on airlines' frequent flier programs can often be redeemed at a rate of about 20,000-40,000 for roundtrip domestic US travel, and about 60,000 to 120,000 for International.

However for the moment, Delta is asking for only about 34,000 to 40,000 miles for a roundtrip ticket from some US cities to Tokyo, Japan.

To get the deal, Go to Delta.com Choose TYO or HND as the destination. Select "Round Trip" for a simple search, or you can choose "Multi-City" and pick to fly to Tokyo from one city and return to another city within the US. Choose to travel on Monday-Thursday days in May or June. Check the "Shop With Miles" link, then run your search. To buy, you must either have: A Delta Skymiles account that has accrued over 30,000 miles, or An American Express "Rewards" Card or a partnered credit card, hotel, or car rental points that can be transferred to Delta Skymiles, with the required amount of points. Transferring Skymiles from one person's account to another does not work well, since they charge hefty fees. The downside is, the deal only works when choosing flights on a Monday through Thursday. The points nearly double when choosing to travel on Friday-Sunday.

Deal works throughout May and June, including travel over Memorial Day.

Example deals for travel in mid-May or early-June. Roundtrip from Denver, CO to Tokyo for 30,000 miles plus $61. Roundtrip from San Francisco (SFO) to Tokyo for 30,000 miles plus $61. Roundtrip from Seattle, WA to Tokyo for 34,000 miles plus $61. Roundtrip from Newark, NJ to Tokyo for 40,000 miles plus $61. Roundtrip from Washington, DC or Baltimore to Tokyo for 40,000 miles plus $61. They seem to route many outbound flights through either Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington, or Minneapolis.

If there are no outbound flights from your city that work for you, perhaps try a "multi-city" search (instead of round-trip), originate from Portland, Seattle, or Minneapolis to Tokyo, then return from Tokyo to your city. This method is called, "Open Jaw", where you originate travel from one place and return to another, and can cost less than a single round-trip ticket. You would buy a separate ticket to get you between home and the other city.

Example Open Jaw deals: Say you live in Denver, you could buy the deal from Seattle to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Denver, CO for 32,000 miles plus $61. Separately buy a flight from Denver to Seattle the day before for about $75, and visit Seattle for a day before catching your flight to Tokyo. Say you live in Austin, TX, you could buy the deal from Portland (PDX) to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Austin, TX for 34,000 miles plus $61. Separately buy a flight from Austin to Portland the day before for about $120, and visit Portland for a day before catching your flight to Tokyo.
