Western Digital Black P50 Portable SSD Game Drive with 1TB storage capacity for $210, and code 93XRX36 applies $34 off in the cart. Normally sells for $210.

The Western Digital is very high performing SSD, compatible with the latest USB 3.2 Gen 2 USB-C interface. Other portable 1TB SSDs sell for about $135 with less read/write speed, but all SSDs will add insanely fast performance to a modern PC, Mac, or Android device that has a USB-C port.

Most game consoles and older laptops have older rectangle-shaped USB-A ports, which generally provides slower read/write speed than USB 3.1, 3.2, and USB-C ports. Even though a USB-C to USB-A cable is included with the WD Black, it would likely need a USB-C connection to perform at full speed.

$190, and code 93XRU23 applies $15 off during checkout. Normally sells for $190.

This is one of the few 4th generation NVMe SSD cards on the market today, and is probably one of the best. Only the newest laptops, desktops, and mini PCs have a performance benefit from 4th Gen NVMe, so check with your computer's specifications to see if NVMe "Gen 4" is supported.

Computers older than a year may not support Gen 4. The Samsung 980 1TB M.2 SSD (not the "Pro") is a cheaper alternative, providing the same performance as the Pro on NVMe "Gen 3" systems. It may even provide equal or better longevity since it uses MLC-based memory cells, versus TLC cells on the Pro.

Seagate Backup Plus 5TB Portable Hard Drive for $102. Normally $110 and up.

This had been a good backup drive for us. The 5TB capacity stores a lot of data, and transfers were quick. We measured the rate at over 90 megabytes per second, which was twice the performance of other small, large capacity, portable hard drives we used.

If speed is more important than capacity and price, look at an external SSD or a large capacity USB-C flash drive. Those will cost more than the 2 cents per GB price of the Seagate.

A single G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB DDR4 SO-DIMM 3200Mhz (PC4-25600) RAM module is on sale today for $60. This and other similar laptop memory modules normally sell for about $75 for a 16GB module. G.Skill has made quality memory products for two decades.

SO-DIMM memory is used in some laptops and some mini PC computers.

For example, an Intel NUC 11 Pro i3 Kit is a tiny and powerful PC which sells for $400. It comes bare, without any memory and disk. So, opening the NUC and installing two of Newegg's 16GB DDR4 3200MHz SO-DIMM RAM would give 32GB of memory for $120. Add a M.2 SSD card (a 1TB costs about $100). Use a keyboard, mouse, and monitor that you already have, install an operating system, and you have successfully built a powerful tiny PC for $650 or maybe less.

Check your laptop's compatibility with 16GB DDR4 memory using Crucial's Memory Advisor. Enter your laptop's make and model. This G.Skill DDR4 will likely work if Crucial shows "16GB DDR4 SODIMM" as a compatible upgrade for your laptop. Compatibility and number of RAM slots vary, but your laptop's spec sheet and manual may provide more details. Beware that many modern laptops are so lightweight that manufacturers punted on SO-DIMM sockets, so no memory upgrades would be possible after the initial purchase. If a laptop says the memory is "soldered", it would not be upgradable.
